|Alliance of leading newspapers launches customizable electronic news service|
|The Daily Star today announced the launch of inadaily.com, a new online service offering customized international and national news via daily email newsletters.
inadaily.com is the first electronic initiative to be launched by the International News Alliance (INA), a new venture between the Daily Star and its network of newspaper partners: International Herald Tribune, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Publishing Group (Germany), Het Financieele Dagblad (The Netherlands), R.C.S./Corriere della Sera (Italy), JoongAng Ilbo (Korea), Kathimerini (Greece), Le Figaro (France) and El Pais (Spain).
At the core of the venture is a common central database that holds all the English-language content produced by the network. It is this content that is then repackaged to create daily newsletters for inadaily.com.
Customers of inadaily.com can choose the type of news they wish to receive (top stories, opinion & commentary, business and finance, sports, lifestyle& culture) and/or the country or countries they are most interested in receiving news from.
The result is a daily news service from highly respected providers, customized to the individual user's needs.
The hope is that the service will appeal to several internationally-oriented communities, including the frequent business traveler, the serial expatriate, the international student, as well as academics, journalists and "news junkies". Although this is a pay-for service, the monthly fee for inadaily.com has been deliberately kept very low: there is just one flat rate of only $3.95 per month which gives subscribers access to an unlimited number or choice of newsletters with the possibility to change their preferences as often as they want. And in order to test the service, customers are offered a free 30-day trial.
"This is one of the most exciting developments from our Publishers' network commented Mr. Jamil Mroue, the Daily Star' Publisher and Editor-in-Chief."inadaily.com is a very innovative service, unmatched by any other news organization. If ever there was a time when it was crucial to know more about the news and views being reported in other countries and cultures, that time is now. By packaging our collective English-language content in an user-friendly and affordable e-mail format, we make the formidable journalistic resources of the Daily Star and its partners much more accessible to many more people around the world."
The Daily Star newspaper is the regional partner of the International Herald Tribune. It is headquartered in Beirut and published six days a week.
