|The Assembly of Professionals and Technicians in Lebanon and Dubai Internet City today announced the Pan Arab Web Awards, a new competition that seeks to identify, recognize and foster excellence in web designing in the Arab world. The Awards are supported by Microsoft and the Business Software Alliance (BSA)
The objective of this competition is to evaluate websites all over the Arab world and honour individuals or teams that have designed and developed the best among them.
Organisations and individual designers from all Arab Countries are eligible to participate in the Awards. Those wishing to participate can register by submitting an application form available on the website: www.panarabwebawards.org.
The deadline for the submission of entries is the January 31, 2005. The winners o! f the Pan Arab Web Awards will be honoured at a gala ceremony to be held on Thursday, 25th February 2005 in Dubai Internet City.
In association with Dubai Internet City, we are proud to announce the Pan Arab Web Awards, a competition that seeks to recognize creative web designing talent in the Arab world,? said Pierre Moukarzel, President of the Assembly of Professionals. Moukarzel said that the key objectives of the Pan Arab Web Awards competition are to support innovation and showcase exceptional web designing creativity as well as to promote awareness of intellectual property issues. ?We believe the Awards will help in raising standards of web designing in the Arab world,? he added.
Moukarzel said that the success of similar national competitions organized in Lebanon in 2003 and 2004 inspired them to conceive of the Pan Arab Web Awards. He also thanked Microsoft and BSA for their generous support.
Jamal Abdulsalam, Director of Partner Relations in! Dubai Internet City said: ?Dubai Internet City is keen to support events that help promote and drive the development of the IT industry in the region. We are also keen to foster talent in the Arab world and we hope that the Awards will encourage and inspire greater creative web designing excellence in the region. Talent is what drives the development of the knowledge economy and this competition will highlight the need to encourage and promote talent in our region.?

Jawad Al Redha, Co-Chair - Middle East, for the Business Software Alliance (BSA), which is also supporting the Awards, expressed his pleasure at the announcement of this important initiative. Al Redha, who has been involved with the organization of the Web Awards in Lebanon said he saw great potential for the Awards in encouraging talent in the region. ?All institutions, organizations and companies in both the private and public sectors in the Arab world are invited to participate in PanArab Web Awards. Apart from recognizing creative excellence, the Awards also seek to raise the awareness to intellectual property awareness all over the Arab region,? he added.
The entries to the Pan Arab Awards will be judged by a specialized technical panel c! onsisting of professors from universities and other experts from the industry. Special criteria based on international standards have been created to guide the judging panel.
Three of the best websites from each of the following categories will be honoured: Art and Design; Banks and Financial Institutions; Corporate and E-Commerce; Culture and Education ; Medical Institutions, Directories and Information Services; Fashion; Government and Municipalities; NGO?s; International Organizations; Health and Insurance; ICT (Software and Telecommunication); Industry; Media; Personal; Sport; Travel, Tourism and Entertainment; and Transportation.
