* $15,000 raised for Junior Achievement Lebanon

Local and international companies raised $15,000 in the latest fundraiser for the Lebanese chapter of Junior Achievement, a US-based non-profit organization that offers grade-school students courses on business and personal economics.

Next year, in addition to expanding into the impoverished areas of the Bekaa Valley, Junior Achievement Lebanon (JAL) will create a job recruitment department which will allow high school students to sign up for a part time job suited toward their business aspirations. The amount raised will cover 10 percent of Junior Achievement Lebanon's (JAL) budget for the 2004-2005 fiscal year, which foresees activities in 30 schools, and brings JAL's total affected population to 10,000 students since it began operating in Lebanon in 2001.

JAL sponsors include Banque du Liban, Fransabank, Credit Libanais, BLOM Bank, Lebanese Canadian Bank, Farra Design Center, Merrill Lynch, Procter and Gamble, EuroRSCG Sharp Pencil, Tadamon Asmar Wood, Gezairi Transport, Reuters, Indevco Foundation, Alico, Toymarket and Proper Eng. and Events.

* Beirut Arab University inks deal with French school

The Beirut Arab University and the French Provence I Marseilles University have concluded a deal paving the way for an exchange of students between the two institutes.
According to the deal, students of the Arabic language in Provence I will come to Beirut and spend a year here practicing the language.
Similarly, students from the Arab University could go to France and do some scientific studies.
The dean of the Beirut Arab University, Mustafa Hassan Mustafa, asked the French university to provide two graduates from the Beirut Arab University with scholarships to go to Provence I in order to do some graduate studies in medicine at the Medicine Faculty there.
