Iran ready to expand ties with Tunisia: minister

Iran's commerce minister here Monday called for identification of factors that would effectively promote Iran-Tunisia bilateral trade.

During a meeting with Tunisian Minister of Trade and Handicrafts Mondher Zenaidi, Commerce Minister Masoud Mir-Kazemi voiced Iran's readiness to bolster its economic and trade cooperation with Tunisia, and called for moves to materialize plans and programs agreed upon by the two sides in previous sessions of their joint economic commission.

He said exchanging trade delegations and holding trade exhibitions can be effective means of displaying the two countries' great potentials and can help bolster their trade and other economic relations.

Referring to Iran's USD 55 billion trade in non-oil commodities with western and European states, the Iranian minister voiced Tehran's readiness to put trade ties with Muslim countries, Tunisia included, at an even higher level.

Tehran is ready to transfer its expertise in the production of pharmaceuticals, automobiles and various foodstuff as well as its technical and engineering services to Tunisia, he said.

The Tunisian minister, for his part, welcomed exchange of experiences with Iran while underscoring the need to bolster trade cooperation between the two countries that enjoy longstanding friendly relations.

Tunisian nationals and officials attach great importance to ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he added.
